Thank you for purchasing one of our Hornet rechargeable air horns! Please read the instructions before using your Hornet air horn.

You will have purchased one of several versions of the Hornet:

  • Hornet Industrial Kit which includes a Hornet air horn with built-in LED battery charge indicator, battery charger, shoulder strap, and waterproof dust proof protective hard case.
  • Hornet Emergency Station Kit which includes a Hornet air horn, battery charger, shoulder strap, and waterproof dust proof protective hard case that can be wall mounted (mounting hardware provided).
  • Hornet Railway Safety Kit which includes a Hornet air horn with built-in LED battery charge indicator, battery charger, shoulder strap that releases when >25 lbs. of pressure is applied, and waterproof dust proof protective hard case.
  • Hornet Sport which includes a Hornet air horn and battery charger.

How To Charge Your Hornet Air Horn

Note: Fully charge your Hornet before first use. Due to shipping regulations, batteries cannot be shipped fully charged. For both models, the charging instructions are identical as follows:

  1. Plug the charger into a 110- or 220-volt AC electrical outlet.
  2. Plug the charger into the Hornet or Hornet Sport air horn.
  3. A red light will appear on the charger itself indicating that the air horn is being charged.
  4. A full battery charge will take up to 3 hours. When fully charged, the light on the charger will change from red to green.
  5. Unplug the charger from the Hornet air horn.
  6. Unplug the charger from the wall outlet.

Operation of Your Hornet & Hornet Sport Air Horn

It is strongly recommended that ear protection is used.

Pull the trigger to activate the air horn. It will operate for up to 35 minutes on one battery charge and can be recharged up to 500 times.

Additional Instructions for the Hornet air horn included in the Hornet Industrial Kit and the Hornet Railway Safety Kit. These models have an LED battery charge indicator built into the Hornet itself. It will turn on when you pull the trigger for 1-2 seconds and remain on for a few seconds after you release the trigger. The colour of the LED will tell you what range the battery charge is within as follows:

  • Green LED: 100% – 70% charged
  • Yellow LED: 70% – 20% charged
  • Red LED: Less than 20% charged

Caution! The Hornet air horn is NOT waterproof so it cannot be safely immersed in water. It is splash resistant.

Caution! Avoid dropping the Hornet & Hornet Sport air horns onto hard surfaces as this may damage the device internally or externally, rendering it inoperable.

Caution! Putting objects into the opening of the trumpet can render the Hornet inoperable.

We strongly recommend wearing hearing protection when using this device.

Question:
Did you charge your air horn’s battery as soon as you received it? A surprising number of questions arise due to not charging the Hornet air horn when it is first received. The LED on the battery charger will turn green when it is fully charged.

Our return policy is straightforward. If you purchase one of our air horns and it fails to perform as advertised, we will accept a return. It is loud. It is reliable. It operates for around 35 minutes per battery charge. It is rechargeable. Those are our advertised claims.

We have a six-month warranty on manufacturing defects. Hey, we are not perfect, nor are our component manufacturers. We test every unit before it goes out the door, but some part may unexpectedly fail prematurely shortly afterward, so we will support that very rare occurrence if it does happen.

If you drop it in a lake or ocean, if you leave it on the roof of your car and drive away and it falls off at 30 kph, if you run over it with your car, or if you drop it from a height and it breaks then it is not covered by our warranty.

Construction: Drilling & Blasting
Hornets are currently being used on five continents for blast signaling in this industry. As an example, the largest drilling & blasting company in the US Northeast is using the Hornet for its 100+ crews operating in over 10 states. The cost savings alone vs. disposable air horns is in the tens of thousands of dollars per year and, unlike disposable air horns, they work reliably especially in winter. Emergency Stations
Whether on a construction site, in a school, or in a factory, the Hornet emergency station is at the ready to warn of an emergency, and they are reliable in cold weather.

Transportation: Railway
The largest commuter railway in North America has hundreds of Hornets deployed with track maintenance crews who work on “live track.” The spotters on either side of the crews use the Hornet to warn maintenance crews to safely move off the track when trains are approaching. Before they discovered the Hornet, they were using disposable gas can air horns but found they didn’t last long and were unreliable especially in winter conditions. Mines Around the Globe
Mines in Europe, Africa, Australia, and in North America are using the Hornet as an integral piece of safety equipment for their daily blasting operations at their open pit mine sites.

Traffic Control Crews
California D.O.T. deploys a number of rock scaling crews to remove loose rock from cliffs and steep embankments above California’s highways. Traffic control crews, working in conjunction with them, are positioned on the highway on each side of  these rock scaling crews. To alert everyone of any traffic or rock scaling-related problems, the traffic control crews are using the Hornet as a warning signal that can be heard up to a mile away.

Crane Safety
The WoodsCan Hornet was used at the base of the One World Trade Center construction site in New York City to alert other workers when crane lifts were about to happen.

Animal Deterrent
Field crews working in remote locations, including geologists and biologists, and outdoor enthusiasts use the Hornet as a means of harmlessly fending-off large animals like bears and cougars when in the wild. Cottagers and campgrounds use the Hornet to warn others when a bear is in the area.

HHS Drilling and Blasting Ltd., based in Victoria British Columbia, is a company of over 25 drilling and blasting professionals dedicated to the highest standards in the industry, with safety being their top priority. In business for over 17 years, their range of technical expertise includes, but is not limited to, road tunnel drilling, underwater blasting, earthquake anchor holes, subdivisions and quarries.

Prior to that, they were using compressed gas air horns, up to six cans per week, at a cost of $15-$20 per can. According to Dave Purnell, Foreman at HHS, “our decision to change was based on the fact that compressed gas air horns were an ongoing cost to the company, as much as $6,200 per year.” They now have a unit in the hands of each of their six blasting crews. The price of their six WoodsCan rechargeable air horns is less than half of what they would spend on cans of compressed gas in one year, and works out to a total net savings of $28,100 over five years.

Another way the WoodsCan product benefits them is in improving reliability. Too many times, when a crew was ready to detonate a blast, the compressed gas air horn would fail them. They were either used up or the valve connection had leaked, and replacements canisters were not always readily at hand.
